If he hit the prop, there's no way he leapt, unless he leapt from midship. Hitting the prop would be more "stepping off" the stern, whether by nudge or his own volution, who's to say...

Plus, if the boat was moving, even harder to "leap" into the prop. I don't think I've ever heard of someone jumping into the prop, have heard people swimming around the boat or picking up skiers getting whacked by props though.

Boats can stop PDQ, I have no idea the official procedure if any, but I'd imagine stopping the boat would be good as soon as someone is overboard unexpectedly with disengaging the prop/s, especially if someone jumps in.
