We are shocked to learn of and divulge the terrible news of the loss of Maria Sofia Paparo, who died prematurely at the age of 27 due to cardiac arrest.

In the last year, her life had completely changed, with the objective of relocating for love after she accepted a marriage proposal on Friday, March 13th.

An extraordinary woman, intelligent, sensitive, and always very helpful, she was known by many for her immense empathy, passion, and kindness.

Always very active in her life, she was a true sportswoman, an eclectic athlete who pushed herself to the limit, she was on her way to Capri – Napoli to participate in the relay.

 "From the time I was a little girl, I always dreamed of competing in Capri-Naples like the legendary athletes I looked up to," said Maria Sofia before that event.  "I attribute my successes to my teammates.”

Masters athlete of the Circolo Nautico Posillipo, in 2019, she was part of the TrofeoSwim4Life staff for the Circuit Supermaster FIN held in December in the Scandone di Napoli pool.

She joined four other athletes on the historical Master Team Speedo, whose inaugural season in Italy was also in 2019.

The young Parthenopean (Neapolitan) has also collaborated with Swim4Life Magazine as an author who reported live from the field until the summer, when she traveled to Rome to cover the Trofeo Internazionale Sette Colli (International Trophy on Seven Hills), where she focused on interviewing the athletes.

She has written some of the most beautiful Life Style articles in Swim4Life Magazine, such as “Why Swimming? Because it is not a simple sport, but much more than that!” and “Swimming, the magic that you create in the pool and makes you feel like a super hero!”

 "Swimming overwhelms your life" – wrote Maria Sofia.  "There will be no day at the beach or vacation when your first thought will not be to pack a swimsuit, a cap and a pair of goggles in your suitcase, because you never know, a swim can always happen”

In a week, she would have been 28 years old.

At this moment, the untimely death of Maria Sofia has been overwhelming, far too premature to be accepted.

The final farewell to Maria Sofia will take place tomorrow, April 12, in the church of St. Anthony of Padua, San Giorgio a Cremano (NA), at 15:00.

It is the desire of the family of Maria Sofia, that the people who will take part in the final farewell to wear yellow and purple. These are the colors that Maria Sofia had chosen for her impending marriage.

For fellow swimmers who take part in the final farewell, the family requests they instead wear something related to the aquatic world such as a swim cap, a pair of goggles, or simply their team jersey.
