Actually theres two reasons. 1) the camera can only pick up certain value ranges at a time and it will take priority over it. 2) Lighting scenarios , dude is in low artificial lighting, of course subject is going to appear darker. Compare to natural sunlight which is brighter. On top of that alot of bounce light.
