Why indeed?

In the clip, it says who Miller was in Ukraine representing. He is a senior advisor for an organization called the Freedom Research Foundation, right under his name.

Okay, so what is this organization, and why would they be talking to high level Ukrainians during a period of intense conflict with Russia?

https://freedomresearchfoundation.org/our-cause/

Freedom is the essential foundation for a world of justice, opportunity, and value. We envision a world where freedom, the most fundamental of all human rights, is a global institution. Our mission is to further the cause of freedom with on-the-ground, practical action to peaceably fight injustice and create freedom for all.

Okay, that explains why he was in a war zone. But why Ukraine?

Founded in 1984 by the architect of The Reagan Doctrine, Dr. Jack Wheeler, the Freedom Research Foundation fought to liberate the nations caught under the iron arm of the Soviet Empire. We are dedicated to continue this legacy of liberty into the 21st century.

Oh. Well, that explains it. And everything he says in the interview is very pro-Ukrainian and anti-Russia, so that lines up.

It’s not a violation of the Logan Act to simply talk to another country, as long as you aren’t negotiating on behalf of the United States. Showing up as a member of a “retired politician club” organization isn’t a violation of anything, and Miller is welcome to do that.

And it’s not surprising the Ukrainians would see him. They’d probably see any formerly important people who can get in front of a news camera right now to ask for help, which is exactly what Miller is doing.
