Now that I think about it, the type of foods she was to eat in a consistent way were high Vitamin K foods. Natto is the highest source of Vitamin K.

Also, people in NE Japan like natto a lot. They have stronger teeth than other parts of Japan. Vitamin K helps keep calcium in your teeth and bones instead of being deposited in your blood vessels.
