An entrenched paradigm is very difficult to break no matter HOW obvious its mismatch to reality. Individual proofs and examples are immediately categorized as "outliers" or "wrong" or "the exception that proves the rule" or ANYTHING that lets the person feel comfortable with his/her current framework. Proofs of the current paradigm's wrongness must be presented repeatedly before they begin to have an effect.

The reigning, incorrect and harmful paradigm can only be uprooted as a whole, or at least by overthrowing a large portion of the whole in a person's mind. Acknowledgement that a single element is incorrect is seldom enough to make a meaningful change of mind.

An emotional component (such as being "at the precipice") is very helpful, to help overpower the emotional attachment to the reigning paradigm.

The Great Awakening as described by Q has all of these elements covered. Even considering the overwhelming advantage the enemy has on the various levers of power (media, government, educational, etc. ad nauseam), I see the White Hats and The People generally as making progress. Too slow for anyone's taste, but progress nonetheless.
