It can be a huge source of angst for the mother and thank goodness there are alternatives because the surgery to fix it is not always easy and finding a wet nurse in proximity is also not simple. I had based parents - my mom had eight kids and only nursed half because to take care of the others while nursing was taxing, so she made her own formula for the other half. She was an amazing person and I never would have shunned her for choosing not to nurse four of us.
