The painting shows Charles V of the Austrian House Of Habsburg splitting the lands of the Spanish Habsburgs (Catholic line on the right side) and the Austro-Hungarian lands (Protestant side on the left). This in my opinion was the most consequential decision in history. Plus Ultra was his motto.
The Spanish Habsurgs (catholic) would go on to attempt an invasion of England, but they failed miserably in what is known as the Spanish Armada. This got the ball rolling on Queen Elizabeth I claiming parts of North America under the newly titled 'British Empire' (coined by Dr. John Dee). Virginia is named after Queen Elizabeth - The Virgin Queen. Queen Elizabeth was strongly protestant, even publishing the Geneva Bible which would be the Bible that many of the founding fathers read.
So without this decision to split up the Habsburg ruling dynasties into two competing factions, the United States of America would never have happened.
