That's odd. I was in the Air Force. That is a C5 Galaxy (the largest cargo acft we have). They are not re-fuelers, but they can accept fuel from a KC-135 or KC-10. The re-fueling boom comes down from the rear of the KC's and goes into the "front" of the C5 just above the flight deck windows.
