quite unaware of it all ... refuses to believe other things ... she finally gave up on disney but is angry with me because the kids like it

OK, this is NOT someone who is "unaware." You made her aware, and yet she STILL refuses to think about it.

That is one of the big problems.

I just tell 'them' to look into it themselves and quit being willfully ignorant

Problem is, they WON'T ... because they don't WANT to believe it (just like your wife).

If they were people interested in intellectual thought, they would have already done SOME sort of research beyond the TV box. But they haven't, and they won't, unless someone shakes them out of their stupor -- because they have no intellectual curiosity. They focus their life on entertainment, bubblegum, and circus clowns. Not intellectual thought. They are adults who never matured intellectually.

I recently had a conversation about the virus with a biology major in college. Judging by the changing looks on her face, she started off as mildly amused that I would be so arrogant as to explain to her things that I "couldn't possibly know" because I was not a "scientist" by profession. Then, she switched to something like, ok you made some points, but you couldn't be right, since other "experts" say something else and how could YOU know, anyway? Then, I managed to get her cornered and she admitted she didn't really know much about the subject because it was not her specific field of study, but she parted the conversation a bit angry. She was not willing to be open to ideas that were not from "experts," and a lot of people are this way.

But my point is, she would NEVER "look into it herself." She just does not have that intellectual curiosity, though by outward appearances it might seem like she does, since she plans on being a "scientist" (though she clearly doesn't even know what that means, because she has been lied to by her professors).

Without being exposed to contrary ideas, many of these people will NOT wake up because they will side-step any information they come across that does not fit within their echo chamber. Break open the door of that echo chamber, I say, and MAKE them confront ideas that make them uncomfortable.

Uncomfortable? TOUGH. FUCKING. SHIT. Grow the fuck up, I say.
