If your broker is Fidelity then the process is pretty simple. Takes me 5 minutes being on the phone with their customer service. You should still have plenty of time, though you might be cutting it close here if you're European or something since it takes longer for them.
You might be able to sell your shares, you might not depending on whether your broker screws you over when it's revealed that they only gave you an IOU and not actual shares. Much safer to directly register them.
