That was my point. Call it whatever you want. The government calls it a tax. A person calls it a usage fee. It is identical no matter what you call it. A rose by any other name costs the same five bucks.

Which really brings up the case for sales tax. We have a gas tax to pay for road infrastructure and maintenance. I have no problem with that tax. It's totally optional, and commensurate with usage of the road.

If our gas taxes really went there, and there wasn't all the thievery that sucks it out of its intended use, and governors that steal even more for that purpose out of "income tax" etc., I have no problem with sales taxes of this nature. It seems "fair" and is in no way theft, since it is totally optional and, at least in theory, correctly applied to usage.

My point is, not all taxes are thievery. I suggest any tax that is truly optional, and not just "optional, but you don't really have a choice" is not thievery.
