When they decided to remake the Dune series at this time, I assumed they would do it to subvert it to the current Globohomo regimen/regime.

I was pleasantly surprised by the first movie. I am also wise to the Hollywood "Weirding Way", so I am on watch for the subversion to happen in the sequel. When Paul is asked to choose the Golden Path, and refuses... I sadly expect the director to misuse that part of the plot, for modern political convention/objectives.

The truth of Dune is that our masters are charlatans. That our prophets are fake. That our future is bleak, unless we write it ourselves. The Golden Path is the sort of story arc for humanity that one who is not human would write. It is "what we'd like to do with our bugs". Not what a human would want for humans.

And this is the point, of the novels. Paul Atreides is a man. Leto II is a man, made into a god with a trick. But still a man. Not God. The best they can do is to be an emissary of God. A faithful servant.

"Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name."
