They would only be concerned about term limits if it would somehow expose them. It appears they were going through a LOT of effort to make it appear legal. I don't understand exactly how they were doing it, but I believe the Speaker of the House being 3rd in line and potentially being someone unelected (no requirement) may be part of it. We may see this play out shortly.
TDLR: They control who is elected, but not who can be "selected" as Speaker by majority of majority party because the Speaker DOES NOT have to be an elected representative.
