I'm saying that we have not made contact with any intelligent, extraterrestrial, matter-based life.

We have, however, been making contact with intelligent energy based lifeforms since before recorded history even began. Christians like me call them angels and demons, although other cultures have given them many names. Both angels and demons are the same sort of creature, they just have different alliances. As energy based, non-material life, they can live anywhere, not just on Earth.
