If the hedgies thought they were going to have a bad day and lose control of the big ones then they let BBBY run a bit and some paperhanded dudes might sell a bit of GME or AMC to surf that BBBY wave. This softens GME and AMC and makes it cheaper and easier for the hedgies to manipulate the price.

I did buy some BBBY myself, but didn't sell any of the others.
