They say the best way to stop an enemy / attacker is to confuse them. It causes them to pause.

When you take the opposing tone, it's not confusing but rather too familiar. Their minds tell them it's all following 'the script': argue with someone you disagree, get angry, eventually cool off, etc.

They won't take in any new information because they feel like they've re-lived 'the script' many times before.

It's not easy, nor is it intuitive to the temptation of the flesh, but when you absorb their attacks and smile at them, it will genuinely appear so bizarre and new to them, because you've demonstrated a power they didn't believe exists or possess themselves. Unconditional love? What is it, they ask themselves, does this person know that I don't?

Eventually, they will become more curious about you, and ask more about how you think. When they WANT to know, is when you redpill.
