I look at a lot of intersecting areas, though not dreams directly, but I think I may be able to help you out with what "remember" likely means in this context. Life as we know it has a "genetic memory" to some undetermined degree. Scientists have confirmed in studies that dogs which have never once seen a human since birth are capable of immediately understanding and reacting appropriately to human body language. Some offshoots of Christianity speak of an "akashic record" which contains the totality of knowledge which exists, that can be accessed by highly spiritually attuned individuals.

Now from my own study it appears as though we do have access to memories from our ancestors, but those memories make less and less sense the further our personal perspective gets from those who made the memories. So my advice for how to better attune with your memories is to get more in touch with the world as they knew it. The best way is thorough nature, which has remained almost entirely unchanged for all of human history. Researching and understanding your family history is another interesting and rewarding method to further your understanding.

As for the cryptic nature of such dreams/visions, to the best of my current understanding it appears to be an artifact (think GPU glitches) resulting from the fact that your current understanding of the world isn't correctly aligned with the truth of what you're seeing.

I have to think I'm on to something, on account of the fact I just don't get bad dreams anymore. The few times demons have attempted to start a bad dream over the past decade or so I recognize them, "wake up" into a lucid state, and force them out.

I think one of the biggest hurdles people run into when they're exploring these subjects is they get into it with stars in their eyes, dreaming of unravelling the mysteries of the universe, and while that's not really untrue the reality of things is really much more ordinary than they were expecting after countless fantasy movies/games. While the truth may be more ordinary, however, the reality is no less impactful to our way of life and therefore deserving of our attention.
