Small, personal anecdote for comparison...

I knew the ending of the tv show How I Met Your Mother, by the end of the first episode. Spent the whole rest of watching the series looking for clues, hints, easter eggs, confirming and reaffirming the endgame that I just knew was eventually coming. Oh boy did the writers leave plenty of crumbs. When the ending finally happened, and it was the result I knew was coming, from what I tried to tell friends was coming, the vast majority of fans hated the ending. Why? Because they didn't get the show. And more importantly, they were embarrassed that they not only didn't get it, but that those who got it and tried to help them get it, ended up being correct all along.

I concur that unfortunately, I think the history of these current events will be received much in the same way. Not matter how hard some of us try to accurately preserve and teach the history, those who didn't get the movie, didn't want the ending to be as it was, or are embarrassed to have been duped and conned by the misdirections in the movie, will stubbornly refuse to accept the truth and will make every effort to counter it with fake history what happened a la Lost Cause propaganda.
