(For the layman) They don't need an app to have access to the microphone. Any smartphone capable of installing apps is already capable of turning on the mic on the OS level without the user being aware. Most all users whether they "use" the google/siri voice service or not are already being listened to. "But I don't use those services and don't even use the "hey google" or "hey siri" commands and by extension the mic is not listening!" Nice try. How is the OS voice service suppose to respond to the command if it is not FIRST listening for the command? Wouldn't the mic have to be listening? For those on the Gregg Phillips level, they are already doing everything possible to protect themselves. I suspect he has come across some info that indicates that TG is working or forwarding data to alphabet agencies. As a result he is warning those of the betrayal.
I personally use TG for information ingestion and don't output on it. If alphabet agencies are going to come after me for that then I'm already gone. If they have reached that level of scumbagery (which we already suspect) we are already in too deep for anything to help. Hell, your neighbors will be pointing at the floorboards giving you up by the end of this movie.
