The Taliban actually removed the poppies and the CIA came in and started production again. The CIA had the US military there to protect them. Once the US military withdrew, the CIA would also have to leave, they would become targets. CIA loses that revenue from the drug trade.

This would have created a vacuum and the Chinese would have replaced the CIA. The Chinese would have made heroin, laced it with fentanyl and shipped it to the USA.

It has always been my belief the Taliban negotiated a withdraw with Trump but they wanted weapons to defend their country from bad actors wanting to grow poppies. Leaving the military equipment behind would have also protected the USA from more drug imports. We know Trump is anti-drug, he is threatening to execute the traffickers.
