If I was building a privacy focused community I would require only a (burnable) email address for registering.
One must require some sort of identifier, even an anonymous one, or the platform would be overwhelmed with anonymous and automated registration spam.
Having a comm channel open through email allows password resets and subscription renewals if desired by the user. Protonmail or one-use emails would support privacy.
