Girls and women have been taught this since the early 1970’s. For example at that time, my mother and many of her friends were not content to be “just” wives and mothers. They wanted careers. Some of my friends and I wanted nothing more than to marry and raise our families. I was lucky enough to be able to stay home and do this but not many were. Think about the "programming". Mary Tyler Moore Show- Mary and Rhoda worked while Phyllis wanted a job. Bob Newhart Show - the women on the show worked, All in the Family, Gloria worked and Edith ended up getting a job. These women wanted "to be all they can be" and that meant not raising their children or making sure their homes were well kept.
