Its an existing law already on the books. Michigan maintains a very broad exemption in the vaccine statute.

In Michigan, parents can receive a waiver from the vaccine requirement if:

--A physician certifies that a specific immunization is or may be detrimental to the child's health or is not appropriate.

--A parent, guardian, or person in loco parentis (the legal term for having the responsibilites of a parent) presents a written statement to the administrator of the child's school or operator of the group program to the effect that the requirements cannot be met because of religious convictions or other objection to immunization.

That "other objection" is not defined in a statute and it has been interpreted to include philosophical objections, said Michael Ross, a Troy lawyer who represents parents seeking waivers from vaccination requirements.

I didnt have my youngest vaccinated after she was around 6. That would be about 1993. Our school district didnt bother us about it and we never sought an exemption. At the time I had to put down the feelings of guilt and wondering if it was the right thing to do. Now I know it was.
