I live in NC. I was a poll worker in a small very blue precinct where over 300 people voted in person on election day. I was not surprised to see the Dem win the election in this precinct but I was shocked to see how close it was as Budd got only 12 less votes than his Dem opponent Cheri Beasley (lost her seat as a State Supreme Court judge the last election).
We not only elected Ted Budd for Senate, but we managed to achieve a majority in the State Supreme Court (whittled it back from 1/5 two election cycles before when judges didn't have to declare a party on the ballot. Now that we know their party we are seeing people select Republicans over Dems.
We also now have a super majority in our state Senate of Republicans and just missed a super majority in our state House of Republicans by one.
In my own county we flipped the sheriff position red and elected all Republicans for school board and other local offices.
