Thanks to Congress, our former Presidents and businesses lobbyists for prodding this despicable visa process under the guise of, “there aren’t enough qualified U.S. workers.” Of course the companies aren’t required to prove their statements. Maybe there needs to be a data base for those graduates/unemployed citizens looking for jobs in a particular field. Companies should then be required to hire and train before foreign work permits are granted. Eliminate importation and provide tax incentives to manufacturers of furniture, electronics, appliances, agriculture/farming. Stop providing incentives to multi million and billion dollar companies that have been established greater than say 5 years. Start exploring children’s interests in 7-8th grade and start training 9-12 (woodworking/furniture manufacturing, growing crops/co-op on farms with flexible school schedules, welding, auto repair/manufacturing, plumbing/HVAC, electrical work, landscaping, construction/remodeling. Eliminate study halls, Physical. Education. Teach practical skills: opening a bank account, budgeting, balance your checkbook, cooking, home repairs. Incorporate these skills in community service: Habitat for Humanity, yard work for the elderly and disabled, simple repairs in the home of elderly and disabled for extra credit. Still continue to teach English and literature, writing, basic math, sciences. How often is algebra, geometry, calculus used unless you are an architect? Foreign languages only needs to be taught if attending university or have International business aspirations (offer Chinese, Spanish, French, German, etc. Only those proficient in English may take the other language-I can’t tell you how many times children who don’t have a grasp of English are forced to take a foreign language. This is a set up for failure and poor self esteem.)
