So, I went to the post office to sign up for informed delivery face to face. Sadly, the postal worker looked unhappy. Once I remembered "informed delivery" (with help from another customer in line), I was able to ask to sign up. The postal worker grabbed a pad of forms, tore off a page, handed it to me and said, "follow these directions online to sign up."

Apparently face to face authentication has gone by the wayside at the United States Postal Service.

Still, even so, God was at work there. Let me explain the blessing:

The lady just behind me struck up a conversation with me while we waiting in line. She had a handful of Christmas cards that she was mailing to Ireland, in response to cards she had received from her frens there.

She said, "I wasn't planning on sending out Christmas cards this year. But, I simply had to after receiving some from these."

"Oh", I said. "I think it is a blessing to receive the cards in the mail. So much better than emails or phone calls because you can stick them in a drawer and discover them later in the year and relive the blessing you got when they first arrived."

She replied, " I am 94 years old and my handwriting is not as good as it once was." I looked at the neatly addressed envelopes and they looked absolutely beautiful to me. "And sometimes I miss putting in a letter in a word."

"But I simply have to send these back to them because I wouldn't wish for them to stop sending cards to me in the future."

I told her I know what she means. "Those cards are treasures."

Yep, I admit it. I had a lump in my throat and a tear on my cheek when it was my turn at the counter. I walked out of there blessed, even if it wasn't from the USPS.
