what's wrong with theorizing that people are conspiring?

they want that phrase to sound ridiculous... the solution, as with so many language issues, is to respect the meanings of words.

if, in your mind, a 'conspiracy theory' means 'something ridiculous that probably isn't true', then you hsve accepted their definitions and allowed them that much control over your mind.

proud to be a conspiracy theorist.. yes they're theories and not always exactly correct... the phrase should carry a similar connotation to 'scientist', and it can if you start thinking of it that way
