I always noticed the skies as I grew up in central America and would visit NM and notice a difference in contrails. I found it fascinating. However in recent years they seem different to me. As in they linger the entire day, which they used to not do, and block out the sun, without it resulting in rains or weather usually associated with cloudiness. You say it's because they fly higher. Also I love being in the sun, as many hours as possible. Just having it blocked out for me is hugely detrimental. But maybe it's just vapor. I'm still not convinced but I appreciate your measured and detailed responses.
Edit: furthermore there are those that would argue light pollution is not a thing as it could be reversed but the fact remains that it is and affects our circadian rhythm. There is no denying that even you don't believe the trails have undesirable chemicals, they do seem to block out the sun and also affect our relationship with it.
