I'm not really a veteran here, but I do spend a lot of time reading here. A lot of times I upvote to show agreement or appreciation for the effort of the thought, or the effort to make a thoughtful post. If i make a post and get a few responses, I try to upvote to show appreciation for someone taking the time to participate in the discussion.
