Low self-esteem can definitely stem from upbringing. Perhaps they were the child that never got attention from parents over other siblings and grew jealous. Maybe they were born uglier than their siblings. Whatever the case, they have self-hatred and insecurities that leads them to express their hate onto others who have it better than them.

That's why you'll see liberals naturally hate anyone who is rich, good-looking, successful, etc. But they wouldn't hate on someone who is weak, ugly, or poor. It's because these unsuccessful people do not hurt their self-esteem or make them feel insecure.

It's great that you have found a functional way to raise your self-esteem. Most people cannot do this and are stuck in a perpetual cycle of virtue signaling to boost their esteem. However, the boost is always fleeting. I believe the best way to raise your self-esteem is through real accomplishments.
