Hey ArcaneSlang!

Great questions!

My brother and I talked about this after because we had the same thought cross our minds.

TacticalWitdotcom summarized it wonderfully and accurately.

I wanted to respond to "To me it’s disingenuous to suggest long time believers can’t recognize a repentant follower if Christ because of tattoos, clothing and former lifestyles." though.

It's funny you mention that situation - it's actually extremely accurate to what my brother and I are seeing in his FIL right now. He's been swept up in Legalism and Religion - and it comes out in ways that actually turns off people around him (we know because they talk to us, knowing we're also Christians, knowing we also adhere strictly to the Bible, but feeling more comfortable talking to us because we don't beat people down for asking questions or not knowing.)

Besides my brother's FIL, I have personally also witnessed this sort of attitude in a number of other places - namely in the southern countryside churches and even in some midwest "big" churches.

I think it's an ongoing struggle, not just for churches, but for humanity in general - "get off my lawn" is a common joke phrase we all laugh at, but it's born of a stereotype sentiment that's real. I'm 45, and I have come to realize that there are times that I struggle with being adversarial towards the "bluehairs" and super SJW's I've been attacked by.

The film isn't what you fear though - I've listened to Greg Laurie weekly for the last 5 years - sometimes daily! He often has messages that speak plainly against homosexuality - he event spoke out against the lockdowns (not the subject we're talking about, but if that gives you insight that's helpful...)
