Reason: added “first”

Disney pulled a bait & switch on Mark Hamill. They got him to sign on for multiple new Star Wars films when only the first was written. The plot of the first new one is a search for Hamill’s character Luke Skywalker. He only appears at the very end and seems mysterious and cool, so it seems like Luke will be cool in the sequel. Hamill read that first script and signed on. Then the sequel got written. Luke, who was admirable in the original trilogy for his optimism and courage, was turned into a doomer coward.

George Lucas was raised Methodist. He made Luke into somewhat of any avatar of himself. Lucas was a short guy who was into the Modesto hot rod scene. Luke is a short guy who was into the Tatooine speeder scene. Although Jediism is based on Buddhism (desire leads to suffering), Taoism (the duality of the yang and the yin, the light and the dark), and Shintoism (Yoda instructs Luke to feel the Force in the trees, the rock, other objects), before Luke’s journey to become a Jedi, he seems to have the values and mannerisms of an American Westerner. Like the song Home on the Range, where seldom is heard a discouraging word, when C-3PO gets faggy with the doom & gloom, Luke says to him “What kind of talk is that?” When Luke sees his aunt and uncle murdered by the Empire, he cowboys up. He’s portrayed by a blonde Germanic-looking actor from California.

I think part of the reason that Disney wanted to humiliate Luke was to humiliate Lucas. I think Lucas has expressed regret at selling Star Wars to Disney.

Now it looks like Luke’s actor Hamill is also being humiliated.
