I seem to recall many Officers sounding the Alarm on this for the better part of a decade. And the Pentagon Brass ignoring them.
Now after they had a probable overpriced study to tell them exactly what the dozens of Civilian studies and their own proverbial boots on the ground Officers and Recruiters could have told them for free. Are they finally listening. And frankly it’s probably not something a recruiting tool disguised as a video game can readily fix.
If the Military wants to address it on their front. Then they’ll need to start having an active and dynamic interest in domestic affairs outside the Defense Industry and the bare minimum required to get more meat for the grinder. Whether that’s a good or bad thing is debatable and not the immediate subject of this post.
Laws and historical precedent have discouraged Military activities and interests that aren’t immediately Defense Industry related. They still have plenty of Soft-power options and loopholes they could utilize to influence trends in the Civilian world. Whether they will or keep up the inefficient and ineffective campaigns they are known for is another story.
