I try to imagine how anyone of any public notoriety would act if they were co-opted into an exclusive, members-only secret society club, blackmailed by malevolent criminals, ideologically aligned or just exhilarated at being in the know about the Grand Plan and how the world really works. I figure they’d all play their gaslighting gatekeeping roles exactly as they do, especially if:

• it’s a big club, and they’re all in it
• all the world is a stage
• malignant narcissism is a feature, not a bug
