There is a Temple location in the old city of David that is very very controversial because it seems to predate the building of the first/second temple at the traditional mount site. The solid argument here is the alternative sites proximity to the only fresh water source, which was always used in purification rituals. I remember seeing information on this many years ago and I'll have to see if I can search for this alternative site. From my memory it contained a very elaborate animal sacrifice area as well. I could be remembering some of these details inaccurately so please forgive me. I will see if I can locate this information, although I have no idea if this is what Josephus was speaking too.

Edit: This other "Temple" commonly called Temple Zero was discovered by Eli Shukron around 2004, it appears that he attributes it to Melchizedek. I did happen to find a video in regards to this site but not the original one I viewed so I'm unsure of the content but here it is anyway. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=0IeZxBlOLJY
