EDIT: Take your emotion out of it. I grew up with Mario too. I've been a video game nerd my entire life. Devoted far too much time to it. But I also notice patterns.

It sucks, because people want to say "Oh, look, they aren't woke Disney, hooray! success!" but really it's just American culture being shattered with Japanese culture put in it's place. Same thing happens with traditional American comic books vs. Manga, even though it's a slippery slope into deranged hentai and the sexualization of childhood characters.
