One thing wrong here, Nakasone didn't skip the 3-star general rank. He was a Lieutenant General (3 star) in 2018 when he was nominated and confirmed to the rank of full General, or 4 star. Remember, Major General is 2 star, Lieutenant General is 3 star, counter-intuitive as that may be. Just as Lt. General Flynn, who retired a 3-star General.
