Lived in Portland for 4.5 years and left in 2021 after covid lockdowns destroyed it. It's a dark place spiritually and literally. Dark and rainy 8 months out of the year. Lot of the east side is very old homes. Driving around some of the main roads can give off a shady older feel. Roads like 82nd Ave and Sandy Blvd felt really shady at times but turning down a street off them you find yourself around some nice houses. Though if you don't have hand me down money, you live in a small old house with no AC or shady apartments. Sometimes I like to say that many in Portland are stuck in the 90s and shop at hot topic. I think the sheer darkness really gets to people there. Then you factor in the drugs. It's the drugs that put people on streets there. I use to say its like a slow motion zombie apocalypse. You'd see some of the most broken people. On top of a government that doesn't give a fuck about picking up trash and making the city nice, only virtue signaling. The homless tent cities are crazy! It's turned into a drug ridden, largest car theft and picking ring, prostitution with shady ass little strip club joints, RV sanctuary trashing everything while you pay a fortune in property tax. Portland is a place that doesn't give off the feeling of hope, but of despair, and the darkness really makes it easy to get depressed and turn to drugs.
