You can go back much farther. That which many believe is fakery, isn't. Consider the War of 1812. You are to believe that the very fledgling USN was able to standstill the British Navy. Not a chance. The war wasn't a war, it was a military operation that destroyed Washington DC, not to raze the capitol, but to replace the constitution and prevent the complete ratification of the original 13th Amendment. Virginia was the 13th state to ratify, and sent a messenger in late 1811 towards DC; he never arrived, as DC was in flames. That 13th forbid anyone holding a foreign title or foreign citizenship to serve in public office, and stripped said of US citizenship. Now then, if you wish to verify, find the 1825 UCMJ in the National Archives (or the original in the archives of the states/territories at the time); the entire constitution as originally written (one different word) was printed in the manual, including the original 13th. Since that was a military manual, one can easily surmise that the military had already formed a small coalition to keep the origins of the Republic. The problem they had was that that 'other' group had already become very powerful, so the small coalition had to remain behind the shades and do what they could.

Incidentally, you will find if you redirect research a bit, that what you call the 'communist takeover' really isn't, in the truest sense. It was an intended takeover of the economics of the US that began with the fed in 1913. Coincidentally, the same people pushing the fed also initiated the ADL in the same year. That should be a major clue. Previous year, 1912, the ship sank with many of those in opposition aboard.

Also incidentally, Nixon was a pawn that rebelled, same as JFK. Nixon did the final blow to the gold standard, but then rebelled. Eisenhower was also, but came to his senses as pres. Reagan was not the patriot everyone thinks he was, since he laid the groundwork to privatize public utilities, paving the way for the economic takeover of the grid etc. Previously, the various states had public utilities commissions with elected people; those were summarily removed, so the people had no say in public utilities. Remember, Reagan was an actor. He did what he was told. He certainly wasn't instrumental in the fall of the USSR; that was because the Soviet Union was no longer a necessity to rule the west.

Carter's reign wasn't a takeover attempt: it was simply the final cementing of the economic takeover of the US. Prior to Carter, there was resistance, but with Nixon's removal of the gold standard, the fed was able to fully control the economic health of the nation. Once that was accomplished, that group I'll call nazis was able to use the economy to convince people of republican - good, democrat - bad, since the fed could make good times or bad at will.
