This is an interesting post, because I’m kind of the same way. My best friend and I - both women, used to do home repairs. We got pretty good at it. No electrical, minimal plumbing, but everything else under the sun. Toilets, water heaters, sinks, leaks, drywall, we even remodel a bathroom once. But it was just us, no company just us working through word of mouth from a homeowner who had some rentals and one realtor that we did jobs for that helped her sell homes. Then people who bought those homes might want a few things done, so she gave them our number as well.
Well, fast forward to today, and thank God I don’t have to do that job anymore because I live in Arizona and it was a real bitch having to work in the heat. However; there are a few people in my life that I will do small projects for, and one in particular that I do work for every couple weeks. But my new gig is pet sitting. It’s a great job, I don’t have to deal with people, and I’m able to be around other people’s animals.
Better yet… I stay at other peoples homes, I don’t have to use my own electricity, my own water, or other resources, when I’m staying at somebody else’s house. So that’s the upside. Right now my air-conditioning broke in my Arizona room, so I’m at somebody else’s house enjoying the cool breeze right now. I’ll get mine fixed in time, but at least it’s not an emergency and I can shop around and find an inexpensive split mini.
There’s so much truth to what you have said, as I am living it myself.
