Adventists originated with a guy who calculated the date of the “Second Coming” and led his flock to sell or give away everything in preparation, but got it wrong. Repeatedly. Kinda Jim Jonesey for me, but whatever gets people on their knees to Jesus Christ is okay I guess. I mean, it’s pretty brave to claim to have uniquely interpreted the “true meaning” of the text, or decoded “hidden messages”. I’d be afraid of God’s wrath for doing such a thing. Seems crazy to me. Maybe it’s all part of God’s plan. It’s not for me to say.

Once upon a time there was Orthodoxy and heresy, but somebody opened up a Pandora’s box of squabbling denominations. Nothing changes. The patristics had their Gnostics, Arians, Montanists, etc. Irinaeus explains it all, and why heresies undermine salvation, but what did he know? He was a primitive savage. (Not). Full disclosure: I’m also no fan of Masons, Jesuits Templars or any other secret societies though they are fascinating to study.
