"Extra-terrestrial" literally means "inhabitant from extra land". This indicates to me that any "aliens" are likely not from space, but from areas of the Earth we are not allowed to go to (such as Antarctica, most of Greenland, and the North Pole as 3 possible examples).
"Aliens" consuming humans had a big "soft disclosure" with the V Mini Series 1983-84. These particular aliens are lizard-like in appearance and use "skin suits" to appear as human.
