You should see what it does to newly hatched sea turtles in beachfront communities. The new hatchlings use the moon to find the sea and the artificial lights mess with them hard.

As an amateur astronomer (yea haha thats a term I use loosely) with a good scope who likes to take pictures of nebulas I hate all the artificial light. I have to go up north to my cabin but even there theres too much ambient light. I have to go way out onto State land to find the darkness I need. And then I have only 1 laptop battery worth of time or I need to run a generator.

I remember as a boy walking the neighborhood with Dad on a summer night, not far from the big city, the Milky Way shining brightly overhead. Havent seen it where I live in 30 years or so. These days even on the darkest nights you can only see maybe 100 stars overhead.
