I'm reminded of an old TV show. In one episode, an investigator wanted to.know where a band of terrorists were hiding so he privately asked each villager to tell him where he should look: north,south, east or west.

The investigator was told this was a waste of time because the villagers would all lie to him.

He replied that he was counting on everyone lying to him and would look for the terrorists in the one direction that no one mentioned.
