We've given up all thought of foreign travel since Big Brother from the novel 1984 literally took over the world and formed the Global Dictatorship (or GD—quite the fitting acronym).
Anytime, in any country, you can suddenly be kidnapped and made a prisoner of the Bioterror Attack Department (BAD) of the GD. You can't go to your next destination. You can't go home. You can't access any money. You may not even be allowed to leave the hotel, cruise ship, etc. You'll do as you're told and shut up about it if you know what's good for you.
That country could have been part of the former so-called "Free World" when you planned and started your trip; then suddenly an edict from WHOever, and that's it. You have no way to know how long you'll be locked up for committing no crime; and there's nothing you can do about it. PLUS! If it's not an English-speaking country, everything just got even MORE fun! Yay!
