I watched about the first 30 minutes and it was a shit show. I had to turn it off.

Here are my takeaways/ annoyances:

  • Moderators lost control. Candidates did not respect each other's time and talked over each other, sometimes 3 at a time. It was a cacophony. Moderators should have cut their mics during this shouting match but they didn't.

  • Puzzlingly, one time Moderator Dana threatened the barely-called-on Doug B. with cutting his mic, while he was just trying to interject an intelligent and well-thought-out comment after all the big players had gotten numerous opportunities to share theirs.

  • The Univision Moderator was allowed to ask way too many questions, and had an accent so thick that even I, a bilingual English/Spanish speaker, had trouble understanding her. The candidates leaned in and had to listen real hard to figure out what the meaning was of the words coming out of her mouth.

  • There were women in the row behind the moderators who were often visible on camera. One was Ron's wife. She looked serene and lovely. Another was some unknown woman in red who kept grinning with her mouth wide open like she was not right in the head. I don't know who she was, but she was really odd and a distraction.

  • Krispy Chris claimed that Pres. Trump only built 52 miles of wall, instead of the 480 miles that he did. He mentioned the amount of debt that happened during Trump's presidency numerous times, failing to mention why that was, i.e., a world-wide pandemic and all that went with that, the 3-year Russia Hoax investigation, 2 impeachment trial costs, 8 hurricanes that needed emergency assistance, 1 Hawaiian volcanic eruption, the California Wildfires, and so much more. He also called Pres. Trump a 'coward' and 'Donald Duck'. Pathetic.

Krispy Chris's large face was sallow and pock-marked and he looked unhealthy. I saw a tired, uninspired person who was past his prime.

  • Nikki "I will never run against you" Haley tried to use practiced hand gestures and a red power suit to make her points, but all I heard was, "Blah, blah, blah, Trump did this wrong, and I can do better." With absolutely nothing of value I could remember.

  • Poor old Mike P.'s rehearsed, carefully modulated, and familiar talking points fell flat and his oft-repeated, "Now, I'm the only one who has actual experience doing this, I can hit the ground running..." made him just seem old and outdated, with no actual solutions given.

  • Like the first debate, I did like what Vivek and Ron said. Doug made a few good points, too. They had passion, ideas and a clear grasp of the big picture. I hope Pres. Trump can utilize them in some way in his administration. Tim Scott tried to make an impression, but just didn't, and I'm not sure why.

Knowing all that I do, when a candidate made a bold faced lie, I shouted at the screen and wondered how they had the gall. Those that employed criticism of Trump or bloviated as to their own abilities or made claims as to how they were going to fix everything without saying how, was tiresome and none got much positive audience reaction for it.

Trump is still better off for not having attended, in my opinion.
