It's a good question whether Kamala Harris will be forced to resign. However, there are major hurdles to this scheme. I'll be the first to question why governor Newsom is set to debate governor DeSantis. It also betrays the rhetoric in the past between De Santis and Newsom. Now, we know their criticism of each other was all an act leading to this point. No one can claim the debate between Newsom and De Santis are breaking the rules for the primaries. Yet, they are indeed breaking the rules. The debate could be a 'dry run' for Newsom, and for setting up the 'Harris'-forced-to-resign' scenario. We'll have to wait to see how this plays out.

Concerning Kamala Harris taking the interim senate seat and resigning the VP position, Is it a big enough carrot to get Kamala out? What guarantees her senate reelection? Isn't Shifty Schiff running for this same senate position? It seems there's not enough "carrot" for Kamala Harris to take the bait. If she is threatened with a criminal investigation, what prevents her from 'spilling the beans' and telling the Judiciary committee? She may have leverage to remain in the VP position.

Governor Newsom has the authority to appoint an interim senator after senator Feinstein resigns.. The scheme calls for the replacement to be Kamala Harris. That is, if she agrees to it. Let's say Harris does agree to the interim senate position. Once this occurs then president Biden can hypothetically choose Newsom to be his new VP. However, both houses of Congress would have to vote for this to happen.

Speaker of the House, Kevin McCarthy is the lynch key for this to occur. In the Constitution under the 25th Amendment. It says,

"Whenever there is a vacancy in the office of the Vice President, the President shall nominate a Vice President who shall take office upon confirmation by a majority vote of both Houses of Congress."

I see this scheme as a clear 'quid pro quo' issue and therefore a dirty political act. I'm not sure of it's legality. In the least, it appears as a dirty mockery of the Constitution.

Republicans need to call this out now to end it before it grows roots.
