Typically the left and right side of the heart are pumping the same amount of blood. Right side pumps blood to the lungs and returns to the left ventricle where it is then pushed out through the aorta.
If the left side of the heart fails with something like cardiomyopathy and the right side of the heart is still functioning properly, this causes fluid to leak through the alveolar capillary membrane. Foamy fluid accumulates in the lungs and you cough it up. This causes oxygen delivery and co2 removal to stop.
Most likely, Brook is brain dead. They may keep her alive for a few days till they pull the plug.
