We lived on a dead end street and it was wonderful, the kids could play and not worry. I had a big German shepherd that would sit on the porch and guard the kids. I was a lineman for many years and would have to access utilities through people’s back yards. 99.9% of the time if you ignore even the meanest dogs and be firm they just don’t know what to do with you, “this guy doesn’t give a shit, I don’t know what to do”. If there is one exception it’s a German Shepherd, they will hide behind a garage for example and sneak attack you, very smart and cunning. I was always very cautious around them. If you are ever attacked by a dog, line up with them, stand your ground. Then give them your hand and shove it down their throat and and grab them by the scruff of their neck, they will not bite but back off, shove even harder. The dog will figure it out real quick and run off.
